Session 3 on Friday, March 5, from 4:15-4:45 (PT)
From Consumers to Competent Creators: Tech for Future Teachers
Technology can be overwhelming even for those who use it in their daily life. Teacher candidates often struggle with how to leverage technology to capitalize on the affordances it offers. This presentation begins by briefly exploring frameworks that can help to guide teachers as they make technology choices, such as SAMR (e.g., Renandya & Floris, 2017) and Universal Design for Learning (e.g., CAST, 2015; Rao & Torres, 2017). In addition, civil discourse and Sabbath from tech will be explored. Next, assignments will be shared that help teacher candidates to create a Personal Learning Network (PLN) as well as become proficient users of technology for classroom or online use. The presenter will guide the audience through how student and teacher creation can be the focus of technology integration with tools such as Padlet, Flipgrid, Voice Thread, Explain Everything, Powtoon, and Canva.
