Fall TESOL Happenings

Frank, our web master, has given me the ability to write a blog here on the website.  I will do so regularly to update you on happenings both formally and informally.  ... I love autumn in Michigan.  It is the season for changing tree colors, cider & donuts, and hay rides.  It is also a time that the Michigan TESOL (MITESOL) folk gather annually.  We met at Michigan State Univesrity on October 22-23 at the Kellogg Center.  We had some great opportunities to network and learn.  The plenary lecture from Diane Larson-Freeman was particularly good.  I gave a talk on using virtual reality in the language classroom and its effects on identity formation and ultimate learning success.  I will be continuing to work on shaping the paper and hope to present at TESOL in Denver as part of the CELEA academic session panel.  ... My campus (Cornerstone U) was also pleased to welcome fellow CELEA member, Bill Acton (of Trinity Western U) to give a series of workshops to our MA TESOL students on October 16th.  Bill gave some great talks on using the whole body to teach and learn pronunciation.  He is doing some great things and my students were really engaged with him.  .... Well, I need to get back to grading those linguistics papers ... and I need some cider and donuts!
